The NBCA holds an annual conference, usually in June, in the city in which the Australian National Band Championships are to be held in the following year. Conferences usually deal with:
- Annual General Meeting of the NBCA Inc.
- Reports from the most recent Australian National Band Championships
- Progress reports for forthcoming Australian National Band Championships
- Rule and Regulation Changes
- Other general business advised by State Governing Bodies.
- Councillors are guided by their State bodies and seek to advance the requests of their affiliated bands, that have the support of their State Associations, to encourage bands to participate in the Australian National Band Championships.
