The Brass Band Championships are required, under the Council's regulations, to be held at Easter.
The Concert Band Championships may be held in conjunction with the Brass sections at Easter, but may be run separately if requested by the host State Governing Body. Usually both are held at Easter.
In 1996 the Band Association of New South Wales conducted the Brass sections in Sydney at Easter and the Concert sections in Wollongong over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June. In 1999, the South Australian Band Association applied to conduct only the Brass sections which were held in Adelaide. The Concert sections were conducted by the Band Association of New South Wales in Sydney, again in June.
The National Band Council of Australia is a representative body formed by agreement of the Australian State Governing Bodies which represent four Australian States. It is incorporated under the relevant New South Wales legislation.
The NBCA acknowledges the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to them and to their Elders past, present and emerging.
