The National Band Council of Australia has officially launched its website to coincide with the release of the Schedule for the 2003 National Band Championships in Newcastle and the Council’s strategic plan.

The website - www.nbca.asn.au - has been in place for the last year but only in a limited capacity. It contained a copy of the Council’s Rules and Regulations and provided a direct e-mail contact to the Secretary of the Council.

The site, in addition to those functions, now provides much more information, links up the websites of the State Governing Bodies and brings to the Council a greater ability to achieve its objectives. However, the current website should still be considered a “work in progress”. Even the historical background information is yet to be completed but the Council was of the view that an incomplete version was better than the current shortage of information.

The objectives of the Council are to facilitate the organisation of the National Band Championships; to share information, ideas and knowledge so as to foster innovation in the banding community; and to promote a knowledge and understanding of brass and concert band music. The website will assist in achieving all of these objectives. The Council expects that the website will have an increasing role in the work of the Council in the future.

NBCA President, David Peters, in launching the site encouraged members of the banding community to provide feedback on the usefulness, or otherwise of the information and functions provided on the website. He also acknowledged the considerable time and effort contributed by Victorian Bands League President, David Billimoria, who designed and created the website for the Council.
